Meghalaya – The Abode of Clouds
Meghalaya, a jewel of Northeast India, is a land where clouds kiss the hills, waterfalls roar with beauty, and nature thrives in its purest form. Known as “The Abode of Clouds”, Meghalaya is blessed with stunning landscapes, rich tribal cultures, and unique natural wonders. The capital city, Shillong, often called the Scotland of the East, charms visitors with its pine-covered hills, colonial architecture, and vibrant music scene. Just outside Shillong lies Umiam Lake, a peaceful reservoir perfect for boating and picnics, while Elephant Falls and Shillong Peak offer a refreshing escape into nature.
Further south, Cherrapunji (Sohra) and Mawsynram are known as two of the wettest places on Earth. These regions are dotted with majestic waterfalls like Nohkalikai Falls, deep limestone caves such as Mawsmai Caves, and the incredible living root bridges crafted by the Khasi people using centuries-old traditions. For adventure seekers, the trek to Nongriat to see the iconic Double Decker Root Bridge is a must-do experience.
